I shot 22 silhouettes at paper targets again tonight.  On one page I got 18 out of 20.  The other 4 targets sucked.  I think that this means I have to practice.

The club really needs to clean out the smoke eater.  I was pretty much the only one shooting (Jim D shot off a couple of rounds but not many) and I just shot a 22 rifle.  After a while there was a lot of smoke on the firing line.

After a while it made me cough and I got a sore throat.

Indoor shooting fun

Some of us are doing a series of informal paper silhouette matches.  We are doing them on Tuesday nights at the indoor range.  A person just shoots at 2 targets that each have 20 silhouettes on them.  For a total of 40 shots.

The targets we use are 50 foot reductions of the actual silhouettes.  And we shoot them 50 feet away.

You can use any 22 rifle with any sights.  You shoot standing and with no support.

You only get 2 "match" targets.  When you start on one you can't start over.  You just have to shoot your 40 shots between 7 and 9.  If you want to shoot "practice" targets before and after your "match" targets.

This is not a KISA match.  Just a bunch of old guys having fun.  No entry fee - no prizes.

Yakima HP Rifle match

Last spring I was able to shoot at the Rattlesnake shooting range in Tri Cities Washington.  This had to be the nicest range I have ever been to.  It was a regular 80 shot 600 yard match.

I did ok but it gets really windy in eastern Washington, especially when your range is on top of a hill.

Bears

The other night we were shooting the 200 yard standing portion of the match and a bear walked behind us about 25 to 50 yards away.  The bear didn't seem to care about us which was just fine with me.

Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP)

I see that KISA has decided to drop our membership to the CMP.  I know that there are members of the club who would still like to pick up a M1 Garand, an old bayonet, etc.

I guess that times are changing.

Alaska State Highpower Rifle Championship

I went to Fairbanks again to shoot in the State High-Power Rifle Championship. It was a lot of fun but I didn’t do a fantastic job of shooting.  The week before the match I changed my sling, my offhand hand position, and added 8 pounds of weight to my rifle.

That is not what you are supposed to do during a match.

I guess that I continue to learn even though I am becoming an old man.

CMP - LEG match

I was hoping that KISA would put on a LEG match. Looks like it isn't going to happen. First Dave Ostlund said that the board didn't want to tie up the Salonie Creek range for another day.

Then I went to the CMP website to see what CMP clubs there are in Alaska. I see that KISA has dropped their affiliation.  It would have been nice to have kept our membership in case any of the club members wanted to order a M1 Garand or some other rifle from the CMP but I guess that is their problem.
